Mushroom Massacre
It was another cookbook recipe testing night at our house so the usual Oregon group--momchef, CGO (chief GOpher) Jamie and CFP (chief food photographer) Shelby-convened to finalize Ravioli with Mushroom-Shallot Sauce. Makes my mouth water just looking at the pictures because the flavor is one that would send a zagat rating soaring. However, as ...
Swiss Christmas
Christmas at our house always means going back to the best parts of Grandpa Scheller's Swiss roots--gooey cheese fondue, comforting chocolate drinks and thin lemon bratzeli cookies. We also tolerate the family yodeling and cow bells ringing on our doors. Through the years we've experimented with lots of cheese fondue recipes and ...
Molasses-Pumpkin Ice Cream Sandwiches
Fall brings a craving for what I like to call "cozy spices" (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves) and, of course, all things pumpkin. We've perfected a decades old family recipe for Molasses Cookies that's spicy, super chewy and has no butter. That makes it virtually a health food according to our Nana. ...
Blue Cheese and Rosemary Grougeres
So I know this recipe doesn't look the best, but it was one of my finalist recipes for the Portland Women's Show. We ended up (thankfully) making crab cakes, micro mac and chocolate Kaluha cheesecake. I liked these and Mom found them bland or something (I stopped listening when after ...

Mama Shoe Chef has no special Valentine, so that means a trip to the kitchen–in heels, of course. Last month I saw a recipe in an old magazine for brownies with port-soaked cherries I made it for a meeting and threw the recipe away. Later I was asked for the recipe, so today seemed a perfect day to make my own version of a decadent... [Read more of this review]
I saw a Texan lady “throw down” with Bobby Flay, and she tossed some sliced chayote on the grill. I realized I’d never tasted one, so I picked one up at the market for 70 cents. It’s new to me, but this unusual veggie pear saved my pork chop dinner. We hadn’t had good old home-style pork chops for a very long time,... [Read more of this review]
We know that a lot of you spend as much time, effort and money on your pets as your friends & family. I’m not sure what this says about our society, but we’ll leave that question for others to chew on. Anyway, my golden lab/ sharpei was looking at me so wistfully while I baked holiday goodies that she eventually bullied me into... [Read more of this review]
Had an awesome hotluck Saturday night. About 25 of our friends came over and brought their favorite hot dishes. We had everything from flaming fire coleslaw to spicy red beans and rice to Vatapa, a Brazilian seafood stew – someone even brought spicy bloody marys. Overall it was a great time. Found out that one of my neighbors is trying out... [Read more of this review]
Cookbook update
We’ve been getting emails about the status of the cookbook. We’re learning that it takes longer when you actually want to produce something for people outside your immediate family. If you don’t follow us on Facebook, become fans and you will be the first to know when our book is ready. At this point we’re finalizing the... [Read more of this review]
